Is there hope for millions of stray animals in the EU?
Hallo, friends and fellow animal lovers, sorry for the late information!
The time is running very fast. But the
Action still isn't to end. Here is my report from Brussels.
On the 24th April 2012 I was in Brussels to present our case for the Petition 1274/2011 to the
EU Petition Committee, the petition having been accepted as such by this committee. Before speaking on our petition, I had to stand in for Kendra Pinder (Petition 595/2011 on stray dogs in Romania) at the request of Carmen Arsene (from the Romanian Animal Welfare Group) and delivered the speech on this petition in English.
At the end of these presentations the representative of the EU Commission remarked that these topics do not come under the jurisdiction of the EU, as no agreements with member countries have been made – the standard reply to issues regarding stray animals, unfortunately.
Subsequently members of the Petition Committee rose to speak out, especially MEPs Victor Boştinaru from Romania and Dr. Peter Jahr, who gave us their vigorous and unconditional support for the petitions.
